چکیده

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> The presence of mercury in the environment is a worldwide concern. Inorganic present industrial materials, employed medical devices, widely used batteries, component fluorescent light bulbs, and it has been associated with human poisoning gold mining areas. nephrotoxicity induced by inorganic relevant health problem mainly developing countries. primary mechanism toxicity oxidative stress. Trimetazidine (TMZ) an anti-ischemic drug, which inhibits cellular stress, eliminates oxygen-free radicals, improves lipid metabolism. aim this study was to evaluate whether administration TMZ protects against mercuric chloride (HgCl2) kidney damage. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Adult male Wistar rats received only HgCl2 (4 mg/kg bw, sc) (Hg group, <i>n</i> = 5) or (3 ip) 30 min before (TMZHg 7). Simultaneously, control group (<i>n</i> 4) studied. After 4 days injection, urinary flow, urea creatinine (Cr) plasma levels, Cr clearance, glucose, sodium-dicarboxylate cotransporter 1 (NaDC1) urine were determined. Lipid peroxidation (MDA) glutathione (GSH) levels measured homogenates. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Rats treated showed increase fractional excretion water, glucosuria, NaDC1 as compared decrease clearance. TMZHg excretion, clearance when Hg group. Moreover, MDA GSH observed groups decreased increased, respectively, pretreatment. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> exerted renoprotective action HgCl2-induced renal injury, might be mediated reduction Considering absence TMZ, its clinical application damage due injury should considered. fact that commercially available simplify accelerate translation data “from bench bedside.” In context, become interesting new example drug repurposing.

Suramin protects from cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury.

Cisplatin, a commonly used cancer chemotherapeutic, has a dose-limiting side effect of nephrotoxicity. Approximately 30% of patients administered cisplatin suffer from kidney injury, and there are limited treatment options for the treatment of cisplatin-induced kidney injury. Suramin, which is Federal Drug Administration-approved for the treatment of trypanosomiasis, improves kidney function af...

HIF activation protects from acute kidney injury.

The contribution of hypoxia to cisplatin-induced renal tubular injury is controversial. Because the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathway is a master regulator of adaptation to hypoxia, we measured the effects of cisplatin on HIF accumulation in vitro and in vivo, and tested whether hypoxic preconditioning is protective against cisplatin-induced injury. We found that cisplatin did not stabiliz...

Gender Related Differences in Kidney Injury Induced by Mercury

The aim of this study was to determine if there are sex-related differences in the acute kidney injury induced by HgCl(2) since female rats express lower levels of renal Oat1 and Oat3 (transporters involved in renal uptake of mercury) as compared with males. Control males and females and Hg-treated male and female Wistar rats were employed. Animals were treated with HgCl(2) (4 mg/kg body weight...

MicroRNA-150 deletion in mice protects kidney from myocardial infarction-induced acute kidney injury.

Despite greater understanding of acute kidney injury (AKI) in animal models, many of the preclinical studies are not translatable. Most of the data were derived from a bilateral renal pedicle clamping model with warm ischemia. However, ischemic injury of the kidney in humans is distinctly different and does not involve clamping of renal vessel. Permanent ligation of the left anterior descending...

Lipocalin2 Protects Human Embryonic Kidney Cells against Cisplatin–Induced Genotoxicity

Cisplatin is one of the most useful chemotherapeutics which performs its cytotoxic effectvia accumulation of platinum resulting in oxidative stress, and destruction of cell DNA. Thiscould probably cause secondary cancers in healthy tissues. Lipocalin2 (Lcn2) is a protein whichits expression is increased in oxidative stresses. Therefore, the present study was performedto evaluate the protective ...
